If you live within striking distance of the National Beekeeping Centre Wales, there are a number of ways you can help the bees. We’re always looking for volunteers to help in the Visitor Centre, at events and shows that we attend as well as at our courses or working directly with the bees in our apiary. You can contact our Visitor Centre and Volunteer Supervisor, Keith Arnold on 01492 651106, email him or call in and introduce yourself.
If you don’t have time to volunteer you can still help by making sure that you call in for some of our lovely honey, bee product based natural cosmetics and bee gifts.
Wherever you live, as long as you have a garden or space for a few pots, you can always help bees by being a bee-friendly gardener. Avoid the use of pesticides in your garden and allow a weed corner - let’s face it – we all have one! Here’s your excuse to leave it be and let the bees forage in it – you’ll be surprised how many you’ll see there. Find out which plants bees like best and do your best to plant a range of things that flower at the extremes of the seasons.
Even if you don’t have space for a few pots you can still get involved by sponsoring one of our hives. It’s perfect if you’ve always wanted a hive of your own but don’t have the time or space, and it makes a lovely gift too for someone who’s interested in bees or a child’s birthday – who knows – perhaps you’ll inspire one of the next generation of beekeepers? The sponsor will receive a fantastic welcome pack with photos of their hive, the opportunity to visit the hive with a beekeeper, tips and advice on how to help bees in the community and a fabulous welcome gift as well as a jar of delicious honey.
If you’re not based in our local area, we still urge you to buy honey from your local beekeeper. Or become a beekeeper yourself - why not visit beautiful North Wales for one of our beekeeping courses and be producing your own honey in no time at all?
You can also support us in our work by becoming a member of the National Beekeeping Centre Wales from just £2 per month for an individual membership.
We believe that by educating, informing and advising beekeepers, landowners, the general public and next generation, together we can all make a difference.
However, without the support of our members and donations that work can’t continue.
